Voter Information

Voting is the easiest way to exercise your democratic rights, all people who are eligible are encouraged to cast their vote for the preferred candidates.  The Village encourages everyone vote who is eligible to do so; your vote matters!

Voting Opportunities

Ashcroft has one voting location for all dates and times:

The Ashcroft Community Hall, located at 409 Bancroft Street

Advanced Voting Opportunities

October 10: 8 am to 8 pm
October 16: 8 am to 4 pm
October 17: 8 am to 4 pm
October 18: 8 am to 4 pm

General Voting Day

October 20: 8 am to 8 pm

Please note the Village does not conduct any "special voting" opportunities or provide the option of mail in ballots.

Eligibility Requirements to Vote

  • Be a Canadian Citizen
  • Be 18 years of age of older on General Voting Day (October 20, 2018)
  • Be a resident of the Village for at least 30 days (September 19, 2018) prior to General Voting Day
  • Be a resident of BC for at least 6 months (April 19, 2018) prior to General Voting Day
  • Not be disqualified from voting in an election under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or bylaw from voting in a local election
  • Be a non-resident owner of property located within Village boundaries

Voting Registration and Voter Identification

The Village of Ashcroft does not conduct advance voter registration.  You will register when you come to vote at any of the voting opportunitiy listed above. 

Please bring with you two (2) pieces of valid identification to prove residency.  One piece must display your signature.  Examples include a BC Driver's License, BC ID Card, Passport, etc, however picture identitifaction is not required.      

Non-residents that own property within the Village may vote.  They must provide the same identification as resident electors, and in addition: proof of ownership (either: property tax notice, certificate of title, utilities notice) and if applicable, written consent from the majority of other property owners assigning you the vote.

Do You Require Assistance To Vote?

Do you need assistance to read the names or to fill in the ballot?  Do you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to get out of your vehicle?  If so, you may ask the Chief Election Officer for assistance. 

All election staff must take an oath to preserve the secrecy of the ballot; they can help voters with a physical disability or those who have difficulty reading or writing.  Alternatively, you can bring someone you know to the voting place to help you.  This person will have to take an oath of secrecy that will be given by the Chief Election Officer.  Please contact the Chief Election Officer on the day you going to vote if you find yourself requiring assistance.
