Who Can Be A Candidate?
To be a candidate, you need to be nominated. For Ashcroft, that means you require the signatures of at least 10 people who are eligible to vote in the General Local Election. Please see the section below on Nomination and Endorsement Packages.
To hold Office, you must meet the following criteria:
Be a Canadian Citizen
Be 18 years of age or older
Be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before nomination papers are filed
Not be disqualified under the criteria found in the Local Government Act (S. 82) or any other enactment in relation to being nominated, being elected, holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
Nomination and Endorsement Packages
Nomination and Endorsement Packages will be available for pick-up beginning Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Ashcroft Village Office, located at 601 Bancroft St, within normal business hours 8 am - 4 pm (Monday - Friday, excluding statutory holidays) and closed Noon - 1 pm.
The nomination period takes place between Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 9 am and Friday, September 14 at 4 pm. During this period, Nomination and Endorsement Packages will be recieved by the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Cheif Election Officer. You must be present and sign your declaration in the presence of the Chief Election Officer or Deputy.

Campaign signs are a common tool used by Candidates to spread the word to the Electors who the Candidate is. However, there are rules regarding where and when campaing signs made be placed. Below are a couple of links to help Candidates with their decision of where to place their campaign signs.

Community Hall Election Sign Prohibition
Election campaign signs are not allowed to be placed anywhere within 100 m of a polling station during any day that the polls are open. The above map demonstrates where the restricted areas are.

January 1 through September 21, 2018: The Election Period
July 27, 2018: Nomination and Endorsement Packages become available
September 4, 2018 (9 am) - September 14, 2018 (4 pm): Nomination Period
September 21, 2018: Last day to withdraw from being a candiate
September 21, 2018: Original copies of nomination forms must be recieved by 4 pm
Spetember 22, 2018 - October 20, 2018: Campaign Period
October 10, 16, 17, & 18, 2018: Advanced Voting Day at the Ashcroft Community Hall
October 20, 2018: General Voting Day at the Ashcroft Community Hall
October 24, 2018: Declaration of Official Results
January 18, 2019: Campaign Financing Disclosure Satement Filing Deadline
February 18, 2019: Campaign Financing Disclosure Statement Filing Deadline with $500 late filing fee
(Note: IF BC Family Day is moved to the 3rd week of February in 2019, February 19, 2019 will be the deadline with the $500 late filing due)
